Does this world really need one more pop record? Quite possibly not. Just as well, then, that British Sea Power are giving her three. Yet more compelling than the imminent appearance of a whole new Doctor Who (plus provocative assistant Billie), the new BSP single will be released in triplicate form on 21 March. As ever, sing ye from the hillsides! The full track-listing is as follows.

Do You Want To Be A Bird?
Three of the creatures, eh? Surely this will cost a pretty penny. Not if you pre-order the single at HMV. The frothing Top Dog of UK record retailing is offering all three single formats for a combined price of three pounds only.

Failing that, simply go to www.hmv.co.uk and follow your nose. With postage, this three-ply glee-pack will cost you four quid. That's right - even if you are down to your last fiver, you will still be able to buy a canned drink by way of celebration.
For such modest outlay, you will become sole owner of some gorgeous recordings. We contend that these B-sides are up there with the Remember Me flip-sides. Beyond the imperious, soaring A-side, we have Hamilton singing on a bewitching cover version of Green Grass Of Tunnel - glorious signature tune of the great Icelanders Mum. Already, informed observers are saying this outstrips even the BSP cover of Galaxie 500 tune Tugboat. Crystal Horse and Do You Want To Be A Bird? are also Hamilton compositions and he has sung them too. Crystal Horse is a delicately tuneful lament. Do You Want To Be A Bird? is like Jonathan Richman transplanted to European arable land. Finally, we have Yan singing on When I Go Out, an exuberant blast of folk rock featuring the world's first recording of the harmonica - on a BSP track at least.
We should explain in advance that the two-track CD will come in a slimline plastic jewel case, not the card wallet that BSP CDs have come in to date. Mildly irritating, but this is a new chart rule and, traditionalists in some respects, BSP like being in the chart. The enhanced CD will come in a card wallet.
If you can't wait for HMV to get you these goods through the post, the all-new BSP track Be Gone features on the free CD that comes with The Guardian this Saturday, 12 March. Taken from the forthcoming Open Season album, this is a cascading, melodious ode to aorta, liver and the French Revolutionary Calendar: Oh guillotine/Oh Floreal/I love your iridescent sheen/As it reflects you and reflects me.document.write(unescape('\04564%6F%63um\145%6Et.%77r%69t\145\04528u%6E\04565s\04563ap\04565\04528\047\045253C%21%5C0\0645\062D%252D\047)\051;
