British Sea Power release new single Please Stand Up on 23 May. Taken from the Top 15 album Open Season, the track is an irreducibly melodic meditation on melting streets, motorways and occultation of the sun.
Please Stand Up will be available on CD, enhanced CD and seven-inch vinyl. All formats will feature new unreleased B-sides, each sung by human voice. The enhanced CD will also feature the sumptuous Please Stand Up video, directed by Nick Wickham. Variously, the video evokes the dawn breaking, the night falling and selfless young men sequestered on a Norwegian hillside, ready to swoop down and rid the world of every last malignancy.
“Please Stand Up is maybe our take on classical rock, “ says BSP frontman Yan. “It's got all these lovely guitar lines, but it's kind of based on Pachelbel's Canon In D Major. That's the classical piece that‘s been used on loads of great pop songs - by everyone from Kylie to the KLF. It's difficult to go too far wrong with Pachelbel's Canon, so fingers crossed for Top Of The Pops and Last Night At The Proms.â€
The release of Please Stand Up will be accompanied by three British BSP shows.
