Britney Spears' ex-fiancé has reportedly been "very stressed" about how she would cope if they split.
There has been speculation that Britney and Jason Trawick's romance has been on the rocks for some time. On Friday, the star confirmed they had decided to go their separate ways after a one-year engagement.
Britney is still the subject of a conservatorship order following her 2008 meltdown, with Jason added to the list of people in charge of her affairs last year. It has been claimed that put a lot of pressure on the pair.
"It has really been in motion awhile. Jason has been very stressed and concerned for Britney and what she might do if he left," a source told FOX411's Pop Tarts column. "He is worried about her and really loved her, but it started to take a real toll on him. The burden of taking care instead of [it being a] partnership where she also takes care [of him]."
Britney and Jason had been together for several years but it is thought the impact of Jason becoming her co-conservator was huge. On Friday, he resigned from the position and will no longer have anything to do with making her personal or professional decisions.
"It was exhausting for Jason and not the way he wanted to live his life," the insider explained. "But this is best for both of them."
Jason was apparently a hit with Britney's parents Lynne and Jamie and it has been claimed they were the ones who encouraged them to get together.
News of the break-up came after Britney confirmed she was leaving the judging panel of the US X Factor to concentrate on her music career.
She is thought to be negotiating a residency in Las Vegas at the moment, which could net her over $100 million.
