Britney Spears has apologised for missing the People's Choice Awards on Wednesday (06Jan16), explaining she got sick.
The singer wasn't around to pick up her Favorite Social Media Celebrity prize at the ceremony, held at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles. But proving she really did deserve recognition for her dedicated online presence, Britney took straight to Twitter to explain.
Under the hashtag "#PeoplesChoiceAwards", she posted a picture of her iPhone screen, reading: "I wish I could have been at the People's Choice Awards tonight but I started to feel sick. Thank you so much for voting for me for Favorite Social Media Celebrity! This is dedicated to my fans, the Britney Army – without you this would not be possible.
"I love that I can share my world with you and that you are so supportive of me. Remember to be kind online and spread love. #ThankYou!"
Britney boasts a massive social media following, with 43.7million watching her Twitter antics and 7.2million signed up to her Instagram account. Promoting kindness online, the star recently posed a picture of herself in a top with the slogan "Mean People Suck", captioning it "enough said".
While People's Choice may recognise her online prowess, rapper Iggy Azalea recently complained she didn't do enough to promote their collaboration Pretty Girls.
"You need content to compete in 2015," Iggy wrote on Twitter. "It's difficult to send a song up the charts without additional promo and tv performances etc. unfortunately I'm just featured."
