Britney Spears has reportedly decided not to return to the US X Factor next season.
Last month, rumours circulated that the pop star could be axed from the talent show because head judge Simon Cowell wasn't impressed with her lacklustre performance. TMZ is now claiming that it is Britney who has made the decision to depart, as she wants to focus on her music.
"Britney loves Simon, she likes Demi Lovato but her thing is music," a source told the website.
The 31-year-old star is currently believed to be in the recording studio working on her new album. She has been collaborating with big names such as will.i.am and producer Hit-Boy for her eighth record.
Britney is eager to concentrate on completing the album, and may even go on tour again to showcase the fresh material.
There has been speculation that Simon wasn't sure about renewing Britney's contract as she was deemed "boring" and hadn't earned her impressive $15 million contract.
"Britney will get the boot," an insider recently revealed to Us Weekly. "Producers wanted her for the long haul, but it isn't working."
The second season of the singing contest wrapped last month and the judging line-up for next year's show has not yet been revealed.
Judge L.A. Reid has already confirmed he will not be returning to the programme.
Britney joined the judging panel in May last year along with pop singer Demi Lovato.
