Britney Spears managed to hold her own while facing the ultimate challenge as an actress on Jane the Virgin, according to its star Gina Rodriguez.
The pop icon is set to guest star on the US TV show's second season, where she'll be playing an exaggerated version of herself who is also Gina's lead character's arch rival. The two women have already started working together and Gina has been thoroughly impressed by Britney, not least when she saw her in a scene with Jaime Camil, who stars as Jane's biological father.
"She definitely got comedy chops like nobody's business, and to go head to head with Jaime is like, the ultimate challenge for a comedic actress because he's so incredible," Gina told HuffPost Live. "She held her own and more. She was very, very good!"
This isn't Britney's first turn in front of the camera; she also appeared in 2002 movie Crossroads. Gina is adamant her fans will enjoy her performance a lot, adding she still hasn't got to grips with seeing the musician around the set.
"Britney Spears was my pop star!" she laughed. "I remember just being 16 and wishing I was Britney.
"I get to dance with her! I won't tell you how or what capacity, but I got to dance with her! I'm just a better person because of it. There's a lot of my childhood that was complete yesterday."
The TV star called the Toxic singer an "incredible woman" who goes out of her way to ensure everyone around her feels comfortable: "She loves the show, that's how (it) actually ended up happening. She spoke about it in an... interview."
