Ladies and gentlemen, in case there was any doubt, five-time Grammy winner and two-time ACM Entertainer of the Year Carrie Underwood has arrived. Underwood brought her critically-acclaimed "Play On Tour" to Los Angeles over the weekend performing to a sold-out crowd of 17,000 fans Saturday, October 2 at the Hollywood Bowl, her first concert at this prestigious venue. That's a lot of Underwood fans converging in one spot, so it's a foregone conclusion that Underwood is probably the biggest of all American Idol contestants and has surpassed Kelly Clarkson.
"What an honor it is to stand on this stage," Underwood said during the show. "I have never had the honor of being here ever before in my life. I have only seen it on TV and in movies, so excuse me if I get a little emotional tonight. The wall of people in front of me is just spectacular! This is truly an unforgettable night – thank you so much!"
Underwood and her band performed alongside the renowned Hollywood Bowl Orchestra. Among the show highlights was Underwood's vocal delivery on the hymn "How Great Thou Art," which brought the entire enthusiastic crowd to its feet delivering the loudest and longest standing ovation of her career. The fans were roaring again when country great Randy Travis made a surprise appearance as he joined Underwood for their hit duet "I Told You So," and when rock guitarist Orianthi played on the #1 smash "Last Name." The concert concluded with an encore of fireworks choreographed to Underwood's monster hit "Before He Cheats" and lively show-closer "Songs Like This."
Underwood's "Play On Tour," hydrated by vitamin water® and sponsored by Olay, continues this week with shows in Houston, San Antonio, and Dallas, Texas. The tour will play over 100 cities in 2010 before wrapping December 19 in Calgary, Alberta Canada.
