Whatever bad feelings there are between the US government and the artist formerly known as Cat Stevens, they were fine in the spring.
Yusuf Islam, as he's known now, was in Washington last May to meet with officials of the White House Office of Faith-Based and Community Initiatives. A White House spokeswoman says he was there to talk about philanthropic work. Islam's brother, David Gordon, says they met with officials in Washington and discussed support for Islam's charity. The White House spokeswoman says the meeting was before Islam was added to the no-fly list.
Islam was a passenger on a plane from London to Washington, which was diverted to Bangor, Maine.
