Charli XCX has reffered to Icona Pop's 'I Love It' (a song she wrote), as "the most annoying song in the world".
Speaking to the NME, she said that the song was extremely garish, but that it had a 90's motif creates a wrong but right paradox. A huge purveyor of the era, she also revealed that she fully expects people to help her new material, but she doesn't care because she's choosing to do it her own way.
Talking about 'I Love It', she told the magazine: "I've played it to a couple of people and they're like, 'Oh my God this sounds like it's going to go into an Avicii kind of moment!' And I'm like, 'Yeah but just wait', and then it doesn't and it does something totally awesome and cool.
"That's what I like about them, they're kind of on the line and I feel the same way about myself sometimes. 'I Love It' is one of the most annoying songs in the world but it's kind of cool and it's the same with '90s fashion which I'm obsessed with - it's so wrong it's right."
Meanwhile Charli XCX's 'Boomclap' has been riding high in the charts, peaking at No.3 and now feeling to No.8. This follows on from the break out success of 'Fancy' with Iggy Azalea, which reigned at the top of American charts for weeks on end.
Charli XCX will play Heaven in London on 30 October. Tickets go on sale at 9am on Friday 8 August. For more information visit here.
