Charli XCX: I love proving doubters wrong

Charli XCX loves proving people wrong.

The British star has found international fame with her musical talents, writing songs for the likes of Icona Pop and releasing hit tracks Boom Clap and Break the Rules.

She has finally found respect in the music industry and is pleased she can leave behind the sceptics who questioned her gift for harmonies previously.

"I feel like that happened when I was younger but now I don't think I'm even really considered that 'young' by music industry standards even though I'm only 22," she explained to Galore magazine when asked whether she gets annoyed when people bring up her age. "It used to annoy me when I was younger because I suppose it just felt like people were always doubting me or waiting for me to f**k up and kind of scared and intimidated by the ideas I have. That happens sometimes still – but I know how to get what I want and I love proving people wrong. So it's something I can handle."

Britney Spears' video to her debut single, ...Baby One More Time, is what initially triggered Charli's love for music and eventually she went on to find her own sound.

She's taken America by storm and is thrilled to have found a second home in the States.

"I genuinely love being in the US. I've always felt more accepted over here which is funny when I come from the UK," she added. "But the two places are so different. The UK is where my heart's at for sure but I do love performing out here."

She also noted how "ridiculous" the music industry is and that her success is down to a lot of good luck and fate.
