Charli XCX didn't pen songs on her new album "to please people".
The 22-year-old British singer is currently promoting her second major-label studio album Sucker, which was released in December 2014.
Charli made it a point to experiment with her sound on the LP and she isn't concerned about how the innovative tunes land on listeners.
"If I'm honest, I'm not even sure if some of my fans are going to like it," she told V magazine.
"I didn't make this music to please people…that's just not why I do it. I don't think about my audience when I make music. The one thing I'm always thinking about is how I want to constantly change. Who knows what the f*** is going to happen with the radio? Like, I've never understood it, so who knows? I'm really proud of this album, and I like it. That's all I care about, really."
Charli is most interested in being the best musician she can be.
She has plenty of plans for the future and hopes to inspire millions of people through her career advancements.
"I've always wanted to be the best songwriter," Charli said. "When I have my songs all over the radio—not necessarily me singing them, but other people—then I'll feel like I've made it. I want to be known as one of the best songwriters and creators of this time period. I guess I won't be able to tell until, like, 10 years' time, but I feel like I'm on track."
