Charli XCX's track Boom Clap "wasn't cool enough" for Hilary Duff to sing.
The 22-year-old British songstress has enjoyed huge success with the catchy song, which also featured on the soundtrack for The Fault in Our Stars. But Charli revealed in a new interview that she initially offered the tune to Hilary's agents, who were prompt to turn down the chance for the former Disney starlet to record it.
"I was drunk one day and I thought 'Let's give it to Hilary Duff, I'm a fan'," Charli admitted during an interview with Australian radio programme the Kyle and Jackie O Show.
'I heard she was recording a new album and thought she probably might like it.'
And asked what reason Hilary's people gave for not wanting the track, Charli said they told her it "wasn't cool enough".
However, while Hilary's rejection may have smarted at the time, it turned out for the best as Charli has become a household name thanks to the song.
And Hilary and Charli are on good terms nowadays, with Charli telling Kyle and Jackie that the actress got in touch with her afterwards.
"Actually, when Hilary heard about it, she tweeted and said: 'Oh my God, if I had known I would have taken it'. She seems really nice."
Hilary had been due to release a new album in October. However, just days before the scheduled release date, Hilary took to Twitter to inform her fans they would have to wait a little longer.
"Guys, hate to break this news but the album won't be out in October..." she tweeted. "You will have to wait a few more months. Love all the excitement tho (sic)."
