Hurricane Sandy may have hindered Halloween plans for most on the Northeast, but some celebrities still got into the Halloween spirit dressing up in over-the-top, creative and sometimes controversial costumes.
Chris Brown caused quite a stir after he posted a photo on Instagram of himself with his friends seemingly dressed as Arab terrorists in beards and turbans. Brown completed the questionable look by holding a rifle above his head and wrapping bullet casings around his robe.
"Ain't nobody F---ing wit my clique!!! #ohb," Brown said on Instagram before attending Rihanna's West Hollywood Halloween party.
Yet, not everyone's Halloween costume proved to be controversial, pop star Katy Perry and actress Shannon Woodward opted to dress up as retro MTV animated characters, Daria and her best friend Jane Lane as they attended a party at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery.
"@shannonwoodward You're like my... best friend," Perry tweeted, who is wearing a voluminous black wig and red blazer, with a photo of the two.
Also at the Halloween bash were costars Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart, who join MTV tonight for "MTV First: The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn-Part 2," who dressed casually, but disguised their faces in transparent masks.
Justin Bieber's longtime girlfriend Selena Gomez kept it simple as well, tweeting out a photo of herself at a Halloween party with friends dressed up as a cat with painted whiskers on her face.
After dressing up as the mermaid from "Splash" over the weekend with boyfriend Kanye West, Kim Kardashian and Kanye decided to go for round two, this time dressing up as Batman and Catwoman, while sister Kourtney and her longtime boyfriend, Scott Disick, kept with the theme, dressing up as Batgirl and Robin as they partied the night away at LIV in Miami.
"Heading to LIV now w the crew!," Kim tweeted. "Can't wait for u to see my costume! The whole crew has a theme. Even cars to go w our theme! Pulling up soon."
Another couple who opted to dress up from head to toe was new mom Jessica Simpson and fiancé Eric Johnson, who last year announced her pregnancy on Halloween. The happy couple shared a photo of their growing family on her website, with Simpson dressed up as a milk maid, with thigh-high boots and a lace mini-skirt, Johnson in a Braveheart costume and their daughter Maxwell, who celebrated her first Halloween, dressed up as a chicken.
