Australia is sending American Urban thug Chris Brown a very strong message that he is not welcome to tour the country.
Brown, a convicted domestic violence perpetrator, is due to tour Australia in December. He was convicted of assault of his girlfriend Rihanna in 2009.
Posters announcing the tour were defaced with a sticker reading "I beat women' clearly placed on billboards around Melbourne this week. That set off a conversation in the community questioning Brown's presence in Australia.
Australia's Minister for Women Michaelia Cash said today that the issue of a visa to Brown is now being closely looked into.
Chris Brown is banned from entering New Zealand and the United Kingdom.
Senator Cash said, "This is a government that is not afraid to say no. We are not afraid to say no to those wanting Visas who commit domestic violence."
Senator Cash has previously banned boxer Floyd Mayweather from entering Australia. Speaking in Melbourne today, Senataor Cash said, "People need to understand if you are going to commit domestic violence and then you want to travel around the world, there are going to be countries that say to you 'You cannot come in'."
A petition calling for the ban of Chris Brown entering Australia has already been signed by over 10,000 people.
