Coldplay and Gorillaz have topped the nominations for this year's MTV Europe Music Awards.

Coldplay are nominated in the Best Group, Best Rock, Best UK & Ireland Act categories, plus Best Song and Best Album.

Gorillaz are up for the Best Group, Best Song, Best Pop, Best UK & Ireland Act and Best Video.

The two bands, along with Robbie Williams, Foo Fighters, Green Day and Black Eyed Peas, will also perform at the event, in Lisbon on November 3.

Gwen Stefani is tipped in four categories - Best Female, Best Pop, Best Album and Best Video.

50 Cent, Green Day, Snoop Dogg, U2 and James Blunt have been nominated three times each.
