Today, the Nordoff Robbins O2 Silver Clef Awards saw The Clash, Barry Gibb, Coldplay, Labrinth, Ray Davies of the Kinks, Alison Moyet, Jessie Ware and Vampire Weekend pick up their awards at the star studded annual event that today raised £480,000.
When 21 year old Edward Buckley stood up and spoke of the incredible effect of music therapy on his recovery from being close to death after being hit by a car only a few years ago, Chris Martin was brought to tears. Martin and his band mate Jonny Buckland went up to meet Edward on stage after seeing a film of him playing Clocks as part of his therapy on his amazing recovery and also topped the bid on their own signed lyrics auction prize to give to Edward as a gift and show their support for Nordoff Robbins Music Therapy.
Coldplay picked up the Royal Albert Hall Best British Act Award from Simon Jones and Nick McCabe of The Verve, who they described as 'legends' on receiving it.
Barry Gibb gave a fantastic acceptance speech when he collected the Sony Mobile Lifetime Achievement Award, 20 years after he won the Special Achievement Award with his brothers for the Bee Gees in 1993. He dedicated his award today to them.
