Daft Punk album clings to number one

Daft Punk has scored the number one album in the US for the week in a row.

The electronic music duo, consisting of Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and Thomas Bangalter, stormed music charts worldwide with the release of Random Access Memories.

New figures released by Billboard suggest the group won't be slowing down anytime soon.

The album is number one again on the Billboard 200 albums chart. Nielsen SoundScan figures show it has sold 93,000 copies in the US in the last week.

Random Access Memories has sold a total of 432,000 volumes since its domestic release.

This week's numbers mark a 73 per cent decrease from the week prior. Experts say the drop is on par with most other number one debuts.

Daft Punk is trailed this week by Alice in Chains. The rock band's The Devil Put Dinosaurs Here debuted with 61,000 volumes sold.

At three is John Fogerty's debut with Wrote a Song for Everyone. The album moved 51,000 and marks the rocker's highest-seller since his 1985 offering Centerfield.

At four is British girl group Little Mix. The singers' first album DNA debuted with 50,000 albums sold.

Rounding out the top five is Blake Shelton. The country music singer's album Based on a True Story sold 42,000 and also included performances with Blake's wife, Miranda Lambert and pop superstar Usher.
