Damon Albarn used to perform shows in his underwear.
The singer admits only having to provide a voice for animated group Gorillaz meant he could be incredibly relaxed during concerts, but by the end of their tour, he was ready to return to the front of the stage.
He said: "We're not playing behind a curtain now, but it was great fun when we did. I used to play in my underpants sometimes.
"But by the end of the first Gorillaz tour, I was itching to get a knife and cut the curtains and go, 'Da-dah!' That natural sort of show-offishness was still there."
Damon shot to fame as the singer of Blur and admits the group's early performances were helped by alcohol.
He added to Q magazine: "To be a great frontman you've got to be fairly fearless. When I was young, it was about being fearless and drunk. Blur learned our stagecraft through alcohol, mainly."
