See 'Monkey: Journey to the West' in Monkey's World in the Meridian Gardens, next to the O2. A purpose-built theatre has been created especially by the Monkey team, to host a kaleidoscope of incredible animation, spectacular visual effects, acrobatics and martial arts. People are invited to immerse themselves in Monkey's World from the minute they step inside. A bespoke theatre with interiors designed by the Monkey team, this brand new event space includes a bar, restaurant, foot massage parlour and a VIP after show area.
Featuring a cast of over 40 Chinese performers including acrobats, silk dancers, contortionists, volcano soldiers, skeleton demons, a Mongolian Kung Fu pig and a singing starfish. 'Monkey: Journey to The West' tells the story of Monkey's quest for redemption and enlightenment as he accompanies the monk Tripitaka to bring the sacred Buddhist scrolls back from India.
The brainchild of highly-respected artists, Monkey: Journey to the West is directed by Chinese director Chen Shi-Zheng. The show's graphics, animated video projection, stage and costume design is by Jamie Hewlett (Tank Girl, Gorillaz and recipient of the 2006 Designer of the Year Award), with the score composed by Damon Albarn (Blur, Gorillaz, The Good, The Bad and the Queen) and performed by an orchestra of Western and Chinese instruments. Between them they have produced something so magical and enchanting that it begs to be delivered to a wider audience. Entertainment for both young and old alike, the Financial Times described the show as "…a sure fire evening of family entertainment."
Tickets for Monkey: Journey to the West go on sale to the public at 9AM on Friday12th September.
