Damon Albarn is among the artists taking part in London’s 2012 Festival.
The Blur and Gorillaz man will work alongside regular collaborator Jamie Hewlett and theatre director Rufus Norris to create a new production for the event.
The event runs alongside the London 2012 Olympics, adding fuel to last year's rumours that Albarn is one of the candidates to be the artistic director of the event.
The production has been co-commissioned by the Manchester International Festival and English National Opera as well as the London 2012 Festival. Full details of the project will be announced at the programme launch of the Manchester International Festival early next year.
Among the other artists confirmed to take part in the festival are Cate Blanchett, David Hockney, Mike Leigh and Jude Law.
The festival will run from June 21 until September 9, 2012, the last day of the 2012 Paralympic Games. The first tickets for the festival will go on sale in October 2011.
