While he's been working on the next Gorillaz album, Damon Albarn says his next project is an afrobeat album with Flea from Red Hot Chili Peppers.
The Gorillaz ringleader has spoken to New Zealand site Stuff.co.nz, saying that less than a year after the release of Plastic Beach he is three-quarters done his next project.
It's a collaboration with Flea and Afrobeat artist Tony Allen, as well as African artists that they met through Albarn's African Express project.
He also spoke about the next Gorillaz album. He said it is 'basically a tour diary', and also a way of understanding America, a country which he said 'has confused me enormously'.
Gorillaz have been touring through the US, as heavily as Blur toured at their peak.
He also mused about doing a proper solo album: ''ve promised myself that one day there'll be a proper ballad record, I don't know ' 'Damon Albarn Sings Ballads' or something.'
