Goodrem is expected to replace shock jock Kyle Sandilands, who is quitting his role, according to reports.
The Born To Try singer will appear alongside Irish crooner Ronan Keating and fellow Aussie songstress Natalie Imbruglia on the judges’ panel – if the show gets the go-ahead.
The programme’s makers, Channel 7, have yet to commit to making this year’s series.
Sandilands told his 2DayFM radio show’s listeners this morning: 'Ronan and Natalie do want to go back. I spoke to them last week; both of them rang me because I’ve said that I’m not going back.
'I thought the show was great and it was great fun to do, but it’s just too hectic, it’s too much. So, I’ve told Channel 7, no.”
He added: 'And then Ronan and Natalie both rang me last week, separately saying that their negotiations had stalled because I’ve said no and then Channel 7 said, ‘Well we don’t know if we’re doing it now’.'
Sydney's Daily Telegraph newspaper reports that Goodrem is the front-runner to replace him, as she was considered for the role for last year's series.
