Demi Lovato has reportedly been a "big help" to Selena Gomez during her personal troubles.
Yesterday it was confirmed that 21-year-old Selena spent two weeks in rehab last month. She sought help at The Dawn, part of The Meadows clinic in Arizona, which is specifically for young people. Her representative insisted she wasn't treated for substance abuse and it's thought she needed help for personal issues.
Demi went to rehab for an eating disorder, self-harm and substance issues in 2010 and is good friends with Selena. It's thought the two former Disney stars have been spending a lot of time together of late.
"Part of her treatment was to speak with others who had similar problems, and she thought that speaking to and hanging out with Demi would be a big help," an insider told Hollywood Life.
"Demi was a big part of the intervention to get Selena help."
Selena and Demi were seen having dinner at a restaurant just days before Selena went to Arizona for her treatment stint.
Demi, 21, has already shown her support for her friend publicly, using Twitter to seemingly send a message about her pal.
"Weakness is living in denial. Only the strongest people ask for help," she wrote.
Demi has previously praised Selena for being one of the few people who stood by her when she needed help in 2010.
Selena's rehab stint came just weeks after she cancelled a string of tour dates, telling fans she needed to spend time working on herself. Her relationship with Justin Bieber has been on/off for over a year and this is thought to have contributed to her issues. She was pictured riding Segways with the star around his neighbourhood last month and was said to be struggling with their relationship at the time.
"The last straw was seeing them on the Segways. She needed to work on her emotional life. She needed to learn tools on how to deal with Justin and letting go of that relationship," a source told E! News.
"This is the first time she's ever taken the time to deal with issues, to deal with herself, with a therapist."
