Even though Demi Lovato was the only mentor during last night's "X Factor" finale without an act in the competition, that didn't mean she walked away empty-handed. On the red carpet, after Tate Stevens was announced the winner of a $5 million recording contract, MTV News presented the "Skyscraper" singer with the award for having the Best Fans of the Year.
"My Lovatics, thank you so much, I'm so honored. You guys are such an incredible force and an amazing army," she said holding her trophy. "I love you so much and you truly are not just fans, you're my friends, you're my family. I love you."
From winning her first VMA — "So amazing," Lovato told when asked her top moments from 2012 — to topping the pop charts — "I was very, very thrilled, and it was there for two weeks, which was crazy," she said about "Give Your Heart a Break" landing at #1 on the Billboard charts — there's no question the last 12 months have been tremendous for Lovato. And none of it would have been possible without her trusty Lovatics by her side. "I'm so blessed," she said smiling. "So thanks!"
The award was announced during "The Big & Best of 2012: A Year End Celebration Presented by T-Mobile" during the "Last Fans Standing" competition. The challenge began with 16 different fan armies and then the field was narrowed to the top seven groups (BeyHive, Selenators, Directioners, Beliebers, Little Monsters, Team Britney and Lovatics), five social-media-fueled challenges via Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Get Glue were administered over the eight-hour livestream.
During the final hour the competition had been dwindled down to the Lovatics, the Little Monsters and Team Britney but after a flurry of dedicated activity, tons of photo shares and a trending hashtag it was Demi Lovato's fan army who took the prize!
