Demi Lovato nearly went back to rehab.
The former Disney star had a spell in a rehabilitation centre in 2011 to help battle her demons with bulimia, self-harm and addiction. This stay led to a bipolar disorder diagnosis, but Demi has been working hard to leave her troubles behind.
However, at one point she nearly found herself back to square one.
"It's been difficult. I almost went back to rehab for my eating disorder last summer," Demi admitted to Fitness magazine. "I was obsessing over food and terrified of it at the same time.
"Wilmer [Valderrama, boyfriend] noticed and called me out on it, which was a relief. I was done being afraid of food and so tired of overeating and not knowing why I did it. Now I'm on a structured meal plan. I eat four small meals and two snacks a day. It's teaching me portion control."
Demi has never shied away from her problems and often talks about her struggles. In doing so she hopes to help others in the same situation.
She even released book Staying Strong - 365 days a Year, which has daily affirmations to help keep herself and others committed to health and happiness.
"I had two choices: I could pretend it never happened, or I could tell people the truth. I was tired of hiding and relieved to know what was wrong with me so I could finally do something to get better," she explained.
With the Australian leg of her Demi World Tour kicking off in April next year, the 22-year-old is in a good place.
"I know my past will always be a part of me, but I don't want it to define me. Right now I'm excited to live in the present and looking forward to the future," she smiled.
