Demi Lovato Releases Somber 'Skyscraper' Single: Listen

Demi Lovato illustrates her resilience in the face of recent personal issues in the new single "Skyscraper," which was released to iTunes early Tuesday morning (July 12).

Produced and co-penned by Toby Gad, the ballad showcases the 18-year-old's quivering voice as she sings about "catching teardrops in my hand," but her strength allows to keep "rising from the ground, like a skyscraper." The singer eventually displays her powerful range as breathy backing vocals and heavy percussion fill in the spaces left by a lonely piano in the beginning of the track.

"Skyscraper" arrives eight months after the Disney star entered a treatment facility for "physical and emotional issues," which reportedly included an eating disorder and self-cutting. Lovato left treatment in January, and in March the singer/actress returned to Twitter and showed off a new wrist tattoo that read "Stay Strong" and was dedicated to her fans.

The "Skyscraper" music video, directed by Mark Pellington, is set to premiere on E! News at 7 pm EST on Wednesday. The single precedes Lovato's forthcoming third album, the follow-up to 2009's "Here We Go Again" that is set for a fall release on Hollywood Records.
