The 19-year-old chart-topper, who recently underwent rehab for an eating disorder, says her third offering - entitled Unbroken - lays bare her high-profile struggles.
After firing staff members who merely stood by and watched as she spiralled downwards last year, Lovato says she's now rebounding from her troubles.
Speaking about her new album, she said: 'I'm so excited. It’s like giving birth to a child, kind of. It's like I have created this thing.
'I feel like it's my little baby and here I am showing it to the world so I feel like in a way it’s my birthday.'
The Texas-born brunette says the decision to release breakout track Skyscraper was a conscious one.
'I had to release it because I wanted to talk about the issues and the journey that I've been on, and I didn’t want to just like come out with a dance song right off the bat,' she said.
