Drake has been forced out of his headlining slot at Wireless this weekend - as well as his scheduled performance at Roskilde Festival - being replaced by an extra appearance from Kanye West in London and an extended set from Rudimental in Birmingham.
Twitter was abound with rumours that the Toronto rapper had cancelled his appearance at both the London and Birmingham installment of the festival earlier today (3 July 2014), but now an official statement has confirmed the cancellation.
Read his statement below:
"To my beloved fans, it truly breaks my heart that I won't be able to perform as planned at Wireless and Roskilde this weekend. I got sick a few days ago and although I am on my way to bouncing back, my doctors have made it clear that I am not physically fit to fly or deliver the performance my fans expect and deserve from me. I will be focused on resting for a quick recovery.
"I have the best fans in the world and I can't wait to come back to make more incredible memories together."
Kanye West will now perform two headline sets on both Friday and Saturday at Wireless in London, while attendees in Birmingham will get an extended set from Rudimental, and a £20 voucher to spend on booze, food or merchandise.
A statement from the organisers reads:
"Drake has regrettably announced that he will be unable to appear at Wireless this weekend.
"However, the party will go on. In London on Saturday, Kanye West will perform a second huge headline set. In Birmingham on Friday, Rudimental will perform a longer set with special guests to be announced. What’s more, those who attend the festival in Birmingham will also receive £20 Wireless Credit to spend on anything at the festival."
