When Lil Wayne appeared onstage with Drake in Las Vegas Saturday night, fans roared with surprise. Perhaps no one was more surprised, though, than Drizzy Drake himself.
"Everybody around me was just playin' me, including Wayne," Drake told in an exclusive post-show interview. "I talked to him on the phone and he was like, 'I'll see you in Miami. I got my party. I hope you make it.' So I hit 'Tez who manages me and Wayne and I said, 'You're not coming to the last show?' And he was like, 'No man, can't make it.' That's how I hit the stage tonight. I got no surprises for these people. They all think Wayne is coming and he's not coming."
During his show, Drake even asked the Vegas crowd to fill in the words for Wayne's verse in "Right Above It." But the fans were not to be denied the surprise appearance they came to see.
"After the hook of 'Miss Me,' " Drake said, "I heard ... Wayne's verse. I didn't quite know what was going on. I looked back and there's the man. I jumped higher than I've ever jumped in my entire life."
Naturally, the sold-out crowed roared with approval for the rest of the track.
Weezy spoke to the crowd from the stage after finishing his performance. "I'm fresh home from my vacation and ain't nothing, nothing, nothing like home!" He asked the crowd to make some noise for Drake and then exited, stage left, to more applause. After a brief backstage celebration with other members of the Young Money / Cash Money camp, Wayne left the venue. He is next expected to appear at a homecoming party in Miami Sunday night.
