Drake does it for his city because he knows his city loves him. And Wednesday night, he returned the love again, taking to his October's Very Own blog to announce the fourth annual OVO Fest in his native Toronto.
The rapper's two-day music festival kicks off Sunday, August 4, and will feature Frank Ocean and electro-soul singer/producer James Blake as headliners. On Monday, August 5, Drake himself will take the main stage at Molson Canadian Amphitheatre with some special guests. Though he didn't reveal names, last year, Drake brought out Nicki Minaj, Rick Ross, 2 Chainz and the Weeknd. In previous years, Jay-Z, Eminem, Nas and Stevie Wonder have all made appearances.
Wednesday was a busy day for Drake. Aside from making the OVO announcement, he and Rick Ross caught up with DJ Khaled to film the music video for "No New Friends." Lil Wayne is also featured on Khaled's Suffering From Success single, but he didn't show up in any of the behind-the-scenes flicks that flooded Instagram last night.
Even without Weezy, however, there was plenty to talk about. In one image circulating on the social-networking site, Drake is seen wearing a number of chains around his neck and a black-and-yellow Dada shirt. An athletic apparel brand that began in the mid-1990s, Dada was heavily marketed to the hip-hop community. In 2001, the company struck shoe deals with NBA players Latrell Sprewell and Chris Webber, but has since lost popularity. By simply donning the shirt, Drizzy was able to start a trending topic on Twitter.
