"I played Glastonbury this year," he told us, but his set was plagued by long delays and sound problems. "Our first night there on the WOW Stage was beyond a shambles, for many many reasons and it just felt like it never ended. Most gigs go by in a flash and that one was absolutely terrible."
Tonight, then, will hopefully run a little more smoothly. His nomination has already won him a legion of new fans - but he hasn't been sent anything weird yet. "A lot of drawings and paintings actually, which is flattering in itself. But nothing really strange, I haven't received any cuddly toys or anything like that, anything that I think might be crossing the boundary - but we'll see what happens after tonight."
As for the state of music right now, the singer told us: "The one thing about music at the moment is that everything is given quite a lot of broad coverage, it's all very fragmented, and there's not one over-arching scene or genre... and I think that can only be a good thing actually."
