Over 600 festivals come to life in Europe over the summer season, a solid reflection of the Europe's music culture and people's eagerness to embrace and celebrate the warmer months.
But this said, 600 festivals is an overwhelming amount for even the most extreme of festival goers. Understanding this, travel search engine GoEuro recently conducted a survey of all 600 festivals. They gathered information on dates, duration, capacity and price to provide a comprehensive list of their handpicked top 97 festivals in Europe on offer this summer.
With the results in it was found that a festivals' duration can start at 1 day and extend to a heady 10 days for the most hardy festival fanatics. The Umbria Jazz Festival in Perugia, Italy and Lokerse Feesten, in Lokeren, Belgium both clock this 10 day duration.
Ranking the festivals by price the UK's iconic Glastonbury Festival was one of the most expensive. The festival has now sold out for 2016 and those attending for the full 5 days will have parted with £228 + £5 booking fee to attend. In line with this UK was also found to host 19 festivals, the most in Europe, however these were also found to be the most expensive in Europe. The cheapest festivals included Germany's Melt!, France's Solidays and Summerfestival in Antwerp, Belgium.
Sorting by the capacity one can recognise the sheer enormity of some festivals, with the likes of Tomorrowland, Sziget Festival and Dour Festival ranging between a capacity 240,000 to over 440,000.
Ranking all collected information on price, duration, capacity and dates GoEuro also created a list of the top 5 festivals by genre. Weather Festival in Paris, France was ranked the number one electronic festival, Wilderness in Charlbury, UK the top alternative festival, Rock im Park in Nuremburg, Germany the top rock festival and Solidays in Paris, France the top pop festival.
