Everywhere you go, it seems everyone is talking about Frank Ocean. The Odd Future singer/songwriter clearly has a ton of fans: He's been holding down the #1 spot on the iTunes chart since he released his major-label debut, Channel Orange, on Monday. And the recent news that Frank once carried on a love affair with another man isn't turning folks off in the least.
"I wanna give a shout to Frank Ocean too," Prodigy told Sway Calloway during Wednesday's (July 11) "RapFix Live." "He's one of my favorite artists. He's dope."
The Mobb Deep lyricist focuses more on Ocean's music than his personal relationships, so for him, Frank's sexuality is a non-factor. "To tell you the truth, I didn't really think too much of it, because I don't care what he does behind the doors in his personal life," P said. "I like his lyrics, the production he uses and all of that. I'm a fan of him."
When Ocean first posted the passage on his Tumblr revealing that his first love was a man, many speculated how the hip-hop community, which has been deemed homophobic, would react, but many rappers have spoken out in support of Frank.
"Whatever that man does in his personal space is that man's choice and that man's business," Busta Rhymes told on July 5 from the set of his "King Tut" video in Los Angeles. "I am an extremely huge fan of Frank Ocean. His music is impeccable to me, and as far as I'm concerned, I respect the dude completely."
Prodigy admires Ocean's courage. "To me, it just shows his fearlessness. He's being himself. He's gonna say what he wants to say," he said. "If he feels like telling you his personal business like that, that's how he wants to do it I guess. I respect that."
