Disgraced paedophile popstar Gary Glitter has touched down at Heathrow Airport but his return to the UK could cost the taxpayer more than $500,000 a year.
The 64-year old, who was released from a Vietnamese prison this week after serving three years for sex offences with under-aged girls, has asked for around the clock protection.
Glitter's solicitor David Corker has told the Telegraph that his client fears "a nutter will step out of the crowd with a big knife for him".
He has asked for guards as soon as he leaves the airport.
Glitter was required to sign a sex offenders register upon his return in the UK. Once police issue the Sex Offences Prevention Order, he will have to report to police before traveling anywhere, and may be banned from using a computer and the Internet.
