Glenn Frey to undergo major surgery

Glenn Frey is facing major surgery for a recurring medical problem, forcing the Eagles to put off accepting the Kennedy Center Honors until 2016.

That award wasn't due to be presented until December 6 but Frey must undergo major surgery which will be followed by a lengthy recovery period, making it impossible for him to make the ceremony.

The Kennedy Center made the announcement which included a statement from the band saying that Frey "has had a recurrence of previous intestinal issues, which will require major surgery and a lengthy recovery period."

Frey has had recurring issues since the 1980's which he blames on the band's hard partying earlier in their career. He had a large section of his intestine removed in 1990 and caused the band to postpone their Hell Freezes Over reunion tour after a bout with diverticulitis.

The band thanked the Kennedy center, saying they would be there next year when "all four Eagles, Glenn Frey, Don Henley, Joe Walsh and Timothy B. Schmidt, can attend."

On the bright side, this will allow Brandon Butler of Hornell, NY an extra year to work on his petition to also see Don Felder, Bernie Leidon and Randy Meisner included in the honor.

The ceremony will go on December 6 honoring Carole King, George Lucas, Rita Moreno, Cicely Tyson and Seiji Ozawa.
