Jay-Z and Kanye West both got some more Grammy hardware to add to their growing collection of golden gramophones. At the pre-televised portion of Sunday's 2013 Grammy Awards the Throne's "N---as in Paris" cleaned up winning two awards in the Best Rap Performance and Best Rap Song category, while Drake took home Best Rap Album honors for Take Care.
Neither Hov nor Yeezy were on hand to accept the pair of awards, but "Paris" producer Hit-Boy was there to receive the honor. "This is amazing right now," the G.O.O.D. Music board banger said immediately after the Best Rap Song award was announced. After thanking God, his parents and his grandmother for buying him his first computer in 2003, Hit saluted his manager Ricky Anderson for placing the beat on the Watch the Throne LP.
While "Paris" was a favorite in both categories which included gems like Nas' "Daughters" and G.O.O.D. Music's "Mercy," the Best Rap category seemed to be an even tougher call. Ultimately Drake beat out Lupe Fiasco (Food & Liquor II: The Great American Rap Album, Pt. 1), the Roots (undun), Nas (Life is Good), Rick Ross (God Forgives, I Don't) and 2 Chainz (Based on a T.R.U. Story).
The award marks Drake's first Grammy since earning his first nominations for "Best I Ever Had" in 2010. Rap veteran Nas, however, is now 0 for 12 when it comes to Grammy nominations, but he still has a shot to win his first award for his posthumous Amy Winehouse duet in the Best Rap/Sung Collaboration category, which will be announced during the main show which begins at 8 p.m. ET.
