When we get to the end of this week the number one album in the USA will be the 'Hope For Haiti Now' album, compiled from performances from last Friday night's telethon. What is going to be interesting is the record it will create.
For the first time ever and for the first time since Billboard changed its internal rules, a compilation album will debut at number one. Not only that, this will be an album that is only available digitally.
The Hope For Now album features the musical performances from the Telethon starting with Alicia Keys 'Send Me An Angel' and including performances from Madonna, Neil Young, Taylor Swift and Bruce Springsteen.
All proceeds from the recordings will go to the charities Partners in Health, Red Cross, UNICEF, Oxfam America, United Nations World Food Program, Yele Haiti Foundation and Clinton Bush Haiti Fund.
The 20 track album is retailing for $7.99 in the US or 99c per track individually.
