The 43-year-old Aussie actor, who has starred in four X-Men movies, Australia and Van Helsing to name just a few, admitted that he was deeply affected by people’s reaction to him when he was starting out.
'I was written off at drama school,' he told The Sun. 'For the first six months I was definitely the dunce of the class. Everything I did, like getting up for an improv, was met with an eye roll.
'It devastated me. I felt very alienated and powerless. It only turned around when I thought, 'Stuff this, let's just have some fun'.'
Now one of the most successful actors in Hollywood, he said that his son Oscar, 11, still cringes for him when he performs.
'He gets very embarrassed by me, any time I am singing or dancing, any time I am up on stage.'
