Are Lady Gaga and Azealia Banks cooking up a collaboration? We can't say for certain, but based on the tweets the two have been trading, it would appear something is in the works.
It all started early Tuesday (August 21), when Banks began dropping hints on her Twitter account with a mysterious message that read simply, "When Mother Monster calls ..." That was followed less than an hour later by a second tweet that promised, "Sh-- is about to get very f---ing real."
Gaga subsequently confirmed the call to Banks in a tweet of her own, asking, "Can you make '99 Problems' my ring tone for when I call you, and then shout 'Bitch Ain't One' at me when you pick up?"
Banks later joked, "Talking to Lady Gaga on tha twitta ... NBD," before adding, "HUGE DEAL." It also seems that she canceled a planned vacation to head to Hawaii ("I'm going to Honolulu tomorrow. This vacation is now null and void"), though it wasn't to meet up with Gaga ᰬ she's currently in Lithuania for a stop on her Born This Way Ball.
So does all this mean a musical collaboration is in the works? It wouldn't be out of the question. After all, Gaga recently revealed that she worked with Kendrick Lamar on "PARTYNAUSEOUS," a song that will appear on his upcoming good kid, m.A.A.d city album (and Banks was previously repped by Gaga's manager, Troy Carter). Meanwhile, Gaga's Little Monsters are speculating that Banks could also be close to signing on to appear on an upcoming leg of the Born This Way Ball.
But what's the real answer? Well, we're not sure. Reps for neither artist could be reached for comment about the potential team-up, meaning that, for now, we're just going to have to await an official word — which, given how this whole thing started, will no doubt come in 140 characters or less.
