Janet Jackson was reportedly responsible for her mother Katherine's trip to Arizona.
The matriarch of the famous family had caused concern when other relatives, including Michael's daughter Paris, claimed to not be able to get hold of her.
But RadarOnline reports that it was the Control singer who was adamant that her mother get some time away and be checked out by an independent doctor.
"Katherine is very well," a family member told the site. "Janet was behind the whole thing – she felt Katherine needed medical help and was desperate for her to get some bed rest."
"It was an extreme measure, but Janet felt that by being away from Paris and Prince Michael, Katherine would be able to relax a lot easier.
"However, it is important to reiterate that she's not at a hospital. If she was truly sick she would be in hospital care. Katherine is holed up at a place where she can just get some rest."
The 82-year-old's nephew Trent Jackson had reported her missing last week but the Los Angeles Sheriff Department stated on Sunday that the elderly woman was safe.
A picture has been released of Katherine with her daughter Rebbie and granddaughter Stacy playing card game UNO at a spa.
