The singer-and-actress threw herself into her work in the aftermath of Michael Jackson's death from acute Propofol intoxication last June and admits she found filming one scene in her latest movie 'Why Did I Get Married Too?' particularly helpful in dealing with her grief.
She explained: "Bashing up that stuff with the golf club, I enjoyed that. I needed it and it came at the right time.
"After reading the script and then going through what had happened in my own family, I was really thankful for the opportunity to completely let go of some things, to just unleash."
Janet, 44, was working on the film - in which she plays a grieving mother - at the time of Michael's death, and even flew back to the set the day after his funeral as she thought it was important to continue working, despite her devastation.
She added in an interview with the Daily Record newspaper: "I left the service that night, jumped on a plane, and was on set the next day.
"Life goes on. You have to as well. You can't just stop. It's not healthy."
Janet also praised her co-star in the film, Tyler Perry, for lending her emotional support during the difficult days after Michael's death.
She added: "Tyler was constantly calling me to see how I was doing. He asked me, 'How do you want to be treated on set?' And I said, 'The way they treated me, no differently.'
"And that's exactly what it was. They thought it was important they didn't bring up what had happened, and that was fine with me."
