The singer – who is now the brand ambassador for weight-loss food-delivery programme Nutrisystem – said that her body consciousness started at a young age, thanks in part to the cheeky pop icon.
'He talked about my butt being too big,' she told USA Today. 'Some of us have a big butt, and some of us don't. I've learned to accept it and love it.'
But her time as a child star on Good Times did little to boost her confidence.
'They told me I had to lose weight, and I wasn't a heavy kid,' she said, adding that thanks to the plan, she finally feels happy with her figure.
'I'm not viewing this as a diet,' she added. 'I'm not putting a number on it. I don't look at the scale. I'm going about it in a different way this time.'
