Jay Kay is reported to have spent £100,000 building a go-karting track in the back garden of his home.
The singer, who was banned for six months for doing 105mph, has had the track built in the grounds of his Buckinghamshire mansion.
A friend said: "Driving is like a drug for Jay and this is the only way he can legally get around his ban.
"The track is brilliant. It's really professional, complete with ramps, a pit lane, crash barriers and a couple of nifty go-karts. He has already tried it out. He's like a kid with a new toy.
"He was devastated when he was caught speeding and was nearly in tears at the thought of his fleet of supercars gathering dust for the rest of the year."
However, it appears the Jamiroquai frontman forgot to apply for planning permission and has had to make an application to Wycombe District Council for the right to keep the track.
Jay Kay was caught speeding in his luxury Mercedes M-Class 4x4 in February this year on the A9 near Perth in Scotland.
