When Jay-Z and Kanye West brought their Watch the Throne Tour to Toronto last year, they were so pleased by the response they decided to play "N----s in Paris" three times (which is nothing compared to the 10 times they played it in Los Angeles, but still ... ). Now, they may be preparing to bless the Toronto International Film Festival with the world premiere of their WTT documentary.
That's according to a report in New York's Daily News, which says the doc will be unveiled at TIFF on September 9.
The paper quotes a source as saying that, while neither Jay nor Kanye has been confirmed to attend the premiere, organizers are "confident West will be there" (despite TIFF taking place during New York Fashion Week), and adds that Will and Jada Pinkett Smith — whose Overbrook Entertainment company is producing the film — are reportedly also set to be in attendance.
Of course, all that was news to the folks at TIFF. A spokesperson for the fest told that "no announcement has been made" regarding the premiere of the Watch the Throne documentary, though the rep added that additional films set to screen at the festival — which runs September 6-16 — will be made in the coming weeks.
And while we may not be sure where the documentary will premiere, we do know what the film is all about. That's thanks to director Robert Lopuski, who last week spoke to MTV News about the film's "intimate" feel, including scenes shot in an Australian mansion where Jay and 'Ye were working on the Watch the Throne album.
"It was really just six or seven people in a room. They rented a mansion and turned it into a recording studio," he said. "It's so easy in hip-hop to sell these big, bombastic, exaggerated gestures, but I was more interested in the smaller moments and quietness of what they do and why they do it. It's something that I've always wanted to see, and I was striving to capture the little moments in their process."
