Hove Festival, Norway, returns for its second year from June 23rd to June 27th. Hove Festival is a relative newcomer to the European festival map, but is already competing respectably with the other two main Scandinavian festivals Hultsfred and Roskilde.
With over 15,000 visitors each day, Hove was already in its first year the biggest festival in Norway.
Last year's debut could also boast a carbon neutral status –zero carbon emissions – and the festival takes its environmental responsibilities seriously, collaborating closely with environmental groups such as Bellona from the planning stages. Nature is a key word here, with its idyllic location on the beautiful island of Tromøya outside the city of Arendal on the scenic Norwegian south coast, previously more known for its many naturalist painters than for its allegiance to "the devil's music". This is a policy that will be continued in 2008.
US rap superstar Jay Z is the latest headliner to be confirmed for this fabulous Norwegian festival.
The gig at Hove offers an extremely rare chance to catch the American rapper at a European festival.
Jay Z joins an already truly eclectic line up, consisting of everything from Black Metal legends Dimmu Borgir through to breakthrough dance acts like Boys Noize and Simian Mobile Disco. Indie/Myspace darlings Black Kids and Joe Lean And The Jing Jang Jong will feature alongside Brit superstars Babyshambles and US metal teen darlings Avenged Sevenfold. Of course a wide selection of Norwegian home-grown talent will also appear with the electronic pop sounds of Familjen to the sounds of art-tech-head Kim Hiorthøy. Scando-rock godfathers The Hellacopters and the post-everything Ungdomsskulen are also confirmed, with more great headliners being added daily in the weeks to come. Hove Festival promise a program the likes of which has never been seen on Norway's shores!
