Jessie J has advised people to "let the badness out like a bruise".
The 26-year-old singer was diagnosed with a hereditary heart defect when she was a child and spent a lot of her youth in hospital. When she first hit the spotlight, much was made of her illness, but recently people have presumed she is better.
"Out of everything, hearing stories that aren't true about myself and being ill are the hardest things I've had to deal with over the past few years. It never gets easier," she told British magazine Cosmopolitan.
"[My health problems haven't] gone away just because I've had some success. I still go to hospital. There are times when I have palpitations and I have to get on with it. I'm not on medication anymore but I have to balance my lifestyle and my diet, and not push myself. When I don't feel well I stop. You have to let the badness out like a bruise."
Despite her health issues, Jessie feels incredibly lucky to be living her life as she is. She has a new album called Sweet Talker coming out later this month and still can't believe she's made her passion into her career. That doesn't mean she loves all aspects of her job; but she's growing used to the less palatable bits.
"When you're a musician you don't think of the fame and success. It goes in cycles. You're not always going to be at the top, so you've got to enjoy all the lessons you learn on the journey," she explained. "Going to events and things can be very 'fish-bowl-y' and that's something I'll never get used to. There are some people who love being famous - they love people treating them a certain way, but I'm not like that. The fame thing will always weird me out."
