The rubber-faced actor dances with the birds, dines with them and even lets them share his bed in a trailer for new movie Mr Popper’s Penguins.
In the film - a big screen adaptation of a children’s book by Richard and Florence Atwater – Carrey plays a wealthy New York businessman whose life changes after he inherits six penguins.
Ben Stiller had originally been lined up for the role, but dropped out of the project.
Owen Wilson and Jack Black were considered as replacements but the job eventually went to Carrey.
The film, which also stars Carla Gugino, Madeline Carroll and Angela Lansbury, is due to be released in the United States in June.
It is expected to be released in the UK two months later.
