Charlotte Street Blues welcomes blues legend John Lee Hooker Jr. to the stage for his only UK date this year.
In 2008, John Lee Hooker Jr. released his third album 'All Odds Against Me,' which saw him secure his second Grammy nomination for 'Best Traditional Blues Album.' The 12-song album, released domestically on Jr.'s own 'Steppin' Stone Records' and across Europe on 'Jazzhaus Records,' is his first to include only new original tracks, a contrast to his previous solo projects, 'Blues with a Vengeance' (2004) and 'Cold As Ice' (2006).
John Lee Hooker Jr. was born in Detroit 'Motor' City with Delta blues-filled blood running through his Motown veins. The son of the great John Lee Hooker, by 8 he had performed on Detroit's WJBK radio and knew from that moment that he wanted to follow the path of his father.
Touring alongside Hooker, Sr. throughout his teens, Jr. had already performed in prestigious venues such as Detroit's Fox Theatre with acclaimed musicians like Jimmy Reed by the time he was 16. In 1972, an 18 year-old John Jr. was singing vocals alongside his father for the recording of Hooker, Sr.'s album 'Live at Soledad Prison.'
John Lee Hooker, Jnr's third album, 'All Odds Against Me,' is out now and he is touring the US and Europe throughout the summer.
