John Mayer gets his own TV show

John Mayer is to front his own TV show.

The 'Gravity' singer - who is dating 'Friends' actress Jennifer Aniston - is set to host a music-based variety show for US network CBS.

CBS Entertainment President Nina Tassler confirmed the plans, saying: "Yeah, we're pretty close to closing the deal. It will be a music variety sketch show. It's his idea.

We didn't reach out to him. He loved it. He's a really funny guy. He's very smart. "I loved him. He's so multi-talented. Great personality. Really smart, loves television and is very funny and has a great sense of humour about himself."

John - who will write many of the sketches - is currently working on a pilot episode and if it is successful, the network will make a series of specials.

Hinting of his venture into TV, John said recently: "I'm working on the next CD, which I'm sure you will immediately hate until you eventually love. I'm basing out of Los Angeles because I'm working on a side project that is extremely cool - I'll tell you about it soon."
