John Mayer's old school decides to celebrate his achievement and the school wouldn't even let Mayer come.
Mayer was being inducted into the Hall of Fame at Fairfield Warde High School in Fairfield, Connecticut, from which he graduated in 1995. Mayer says he initially wasn't going to go to the induction ceremony but changed his mind. He says when he approached the other inductees, a former teacher took him by the arm and led him into the headmaster's office. It's because the school did not expect Mayer to come and officials shooed him into the office because of security concerns. Mayer says officials stalled him until the ceremony was underway and then walked him to his car. He calls it "hurtful." Headmaster James Coyne says it was only because the school was concerned for Mayer's welfare and that of the students.
Coyne also says Mayer was not escorted from the premises -- they "accompanied him to his car."document.write(unescape("
